Our new pediatrician

On Thursday Mom & I took Brock and Adrianna to Dr. Liesen's office for the first time for their 2 year and 2 month check-ups.  Let me start by saying that Dr. Liesen was just as wonderful in his office as he was in the hospital when Adrianna was born and I'm so happy that we decided to switch the kids into his practice.  Even though Brock was in a terrible mood because he hadn't gotten a nap, Dr. Liesen was super-understanding (seeing as he has 8--that's right.  EIGHT.  kids of his own) and he was absolutely wonderful with the kids.  As soon as he walked into the room he said, "I remember you guys.  I saw your baby in the well-baby nursery at Regional, right?  She is still just as beautiful as she was when she was born!"  Brownie points for telling me that my baby is cute and double brownie points for actually (or lying about) remembering us!

Dr. Liesen was impressed with Brock's vocabulary and said that he was talking more like an "almost-three-year-old" as opposed to a "just-turned-two-year-old".  He was encouraging about potty training and reminded me that most boys don't completely get it until they are closer to three years old.  I asked him about Brock's milk allergy and if he thought Brock would eventually outgrow it.  He suggested that in January we begin to SLOWLY re-introduce milk and see how his body reacts.  He thinks that Brock will eventually get over this since he is able to eat cheese and yogurt without having the vomitting episodes that accompany milk.  Brock actually let the doctor look in his ears, nose & mouth (he even stuck his tongue out when the doctor asked him to!) but he was pretty upset when Dr. Liesen wouldn't let him keep the stethescope.  Since Brock is now two, we were able to get the flu-mist vaccine rather than the flu shot which was wonderful!  Brock actually did really well with the mist and sucked it right up into his nose just like he was supposed to!  He only had to get the Hepatitis A vaccine and doesn't have to be seen again until he is three!  Unless, of course, he is sick and needs to be seen sooner.

Brock's stats:
Height: 35.5 inches (just above 50th percentile)
Weight: 25lbs (50th percentile)
Head circumference: 48.75cm (50th percentile)

Adrianna's exam when just as well as Brock's did.  Dr. Liesen checked to be sure that she was tracking objects with her eyes (she does) & focuses on objects that are more than 3 feet from her face (she does).  He also checked all the physical stuff like hip dysplasia, hernia, soft spots, eyes, ears, mouth, throat, etc.  He did make the comment that she has "cute chubby legs & arms" which I am particularly proud of since she is (nearly) exclusively breast fed!  He also commented on how beautiful her skin is and how she is such a happy baby because she was smiling quite a bit at him.  Such a little flirty girl!

Adrianna's stats:
Length: 23.5 inches (75th percentile)
Weight: 12lbs, 0 oz. (75th percentile)
Head circumference: 39.5 cm (75th percentile)

And, as promised in an earlier post, Adrianna's two month pictures:

Edit: Per Mom's request, (and I can't believe that I forgot to add this) here is one of the funniest things that happened at the doctor's office:

Poor Adrianna had to get 4 different shots and just before the first one she was nice & calm just looking around and smiling at me.  Well, that all changed once the nurse gave her the first shot--she was screaming!!  Of course it broke my heart to see her face turn PURPLE because she was crying so hard.  But, all of a sudden Brock started laughing at her!!  It was funny because he didn't understand exactly what was going on but I mean, seriously.  He was laughing SO HARD!  I'm sure that this is just a glimpse of things to come . . .

WHAT, no comment about the screaming fit she had during the shots and how it made Brock laugh!! Or the meltdown he had because he didn't get juice!
Oh well, all was ok when we stopped at McDonalds and got juice and she got to sleep!
Love,
Papa and D
